Ashmont T Station pedal in park coming next spring

There are currently 2 MBTA stations that have “Pedal and Park” facilities (formerly known as bike cages) – i.e. secure covered bike parking facilities, Alewife and Forest Hills.  And the one at South Station is supposed to open soon if it hasn’t already.

Stimulus funding is allowing the T to install  6 new secured “Pedal & Park” facilities around the system including the one  at South Station.

We’ve been advocating to get one at Ashmont station and we got some good news from the T on that yesterday.  The T has committed to installing a “Pedal & Park” at Ashmont Station as part of the completion of the station reconstruction project and are moving forward with final design plans with the goal of having the facility installed near the time that the rest of the station is completed next spring.

Great news!

Awesome! Now I don’t have to worry about the hassle of bringing my bike up from the basement everyday anymore. I literally live in front of Ashmont too, so I can frequently utilize this.

If they ever complete the station….Wasn’t it due to be completed in 1999?

It never was completed despite the fact that it was a terminal station. Since the Charlie Card system was introduced and many stations on the red line had a huge remake. Since 2004, Ashmont still remains incomplete, even more. I do see alot of workers though.

Looks like they’re making the final push for sure. Wouldn’t it be nice NOT to have to walk the length of the station twice! Of course that will make for a more crowded first car…
