We’re planning a ride for Wednesday March 12th starting at 5:30 pm and hope you can come!

This ride is open to all.

The ride will begin at 5:30 pm and the proposed route will go from the Boston Common (meeting place 1) and will go to Dorchester Ave. and then proceed down Dorchester Ave. to end in Lower Mills.
There will be at least two additional locations to meet and join the ride – the South Bay Center and VietAid at Fields Corner have been proposed. Definite locations and times for these sites TBA.
Riders can join or drop off the ride at any point along the route and we plan to ride together as a group obeying all traffic regulations so no one will be dropped.

The primary aims of this ride are to allow dotbikers to meet each other while having fun participating in the activity that has brought us together and to promote driver awareness. Let’s get drivers used to seeing bicyclists sharing the roads of Dorchester.

Rain date is Thursday March 13th.

We’re planning a ride for Wednesday March 12th starting at 5:30 pm and hope you can come!

This ride is open to all.

This will be a fairly informal ride and we’re still working out the details but the basic proposed framework is:

  • The ride will begin at 5:30 pm and the proposed route will go from the Boston Common (meeting place 1) and will go to Dorchester Ave. and then proceed down Dorchester Ave. to end in Lower Mills.
  • There will be at least two additional locations to meet and join the ride – the South Bay Center and VietAid at Fields Corner have been proposed. Definite locations and times for these sites TBA.
  • Riders can join or drop off the ride at any point along the route and we plan to ride together as a group obeying all traffic regulations so no one will be dropped.
  • The Ice Cream Smith opens March 1st so will be available for post ride refreshment.

The primary aims of this ride are to allow dotbikers to meet each other while having fun participating in the activity that has brought us together and to promote driver awareness. Let’s get drivers used to seeing bicyclists sharing the roads of Dorchester.

This is the first week of daylight savings time so there will be plenty of light.

Rain date is Thursday March 13th.

Stay tuned for additional details and route info.

Second face2face meeting report

A group of about a dozen dotbikers met at VietAid on Tuesday February 12th.

It’s still early days yet but things are moving along.

A mission statement is being drafted and a logo design is in the works.

Outreach efforts are underway and we’re working to get the word out, so if you are interested in biking in Dorchester or know someone who is, join our google group and pass the word along.

We’ve decided to initially focus our advocacy efforts at getting more bike racks installed in Dorchester. There is a dearth of bike parking in Dot and some of the currently available racks are poorly sited. The city has the resources and an initiative to create more bike parking throughout the city and we want to make sure that our neighborhood gets its fair share. We have been busy identifying possible sites for new racks on our map and would love more input. As you will see most of the proposed locations are on Dot Ave. but there are certainly other appropriate sites in the neighborhood. We will use this info to prioritize and then submit a request to the city.

And last but certainly not least we came up with some plans for the first DotBike ride on Tuesday March 12th. There are still a few things to work out but check out the details in a subsequent post.

We have been working hard on our new bike map, check it out and let us know what you think!

The map is a record of improvements we would like to make, hazard areas, and cool bike stuff we want to point out.

This map is still a rough draft, and will be changing often. If you are interested in adding things to the map join our Google Group and follow the instructions on the map page.
